Optimal Driving Strategies for a Train Journey with Speed Limits
How should a vehicle he driven to minimise fuel consumption? In this paper we consider the case where a train is to be driven along a straight, level track, but where speed limits may apply over parts of the track. The journey is to be completed within a specified time using as little fuel as possible. For a journey without speed limits, the optimal driving strategy typically requires full powe...
متن کاملa benchmarking approach to optimal asset allocation for insurers and pension funds
uncertainty in the financial market will be driven by underlying brownian motions, while the assets are assumed to be general stochastic processes adapted to the filtration of the brownian motions. the goal of this study is to calculate the accumulated wealth in order to optimize the expected terminal value using a suitable utility function. this thesis introduced the lim-wong’s benchmark fun...
15 صفحه اولOn Train Track Splitting Sequences
We present a structure theorem for the subsurface projections of train track splitting sequences. For the proof we introduce induced tracks, efficient position, and wide curves. As a consequence of the structure theorem we prove that train track sliding and splitting sequences give quasi-geodesics in the train track graph; this generalizes a result of Hamenstädt [Invent. Math.].
متن کاملOptimal strategies to track and capture a predictable target
We present an O(n log n)-time algorithm for computing the optimal robot motion that maintains lineof-sight visibility between a target moving inside a polygon with n vertices which may contain holes. The motion is optimal for the tracking robot (the observer) in the sense that the target either remains visible for the longest possible time, or it is captured by the observer in the minimum time ...
متن کاملMitigating train-type heterogeneity on a single-track line
North American railroads are experiencing growth in traffic demand and increasingly need to expand capacity on their lines; this will require changes in the mode of operation and infrastructure. Infrastructure expansion requires long lead times and is capital-intensive. Alternatively, some additional capacity may be achieved by alteration of the mode of operation which is often less expensive a...
